Yes.
La Plata county has records on-line visit https://papervision.laplata.co.us to view our recorded documents. Please note: you will be unable to print any documents unless you have an account with us. To obtain copies you must be on-site or send in a request along with payment. If you are interested in setting up an account please contact our office at 970-382-6281 or 970-382-6283.
Foreclosure Properties - Where do I get a list of foreclosure properties?
Although foreclosure documents are recorded with us in this office we do not have a "list" of such properties. The Public Trustee's office has a web site that you can view current foreclosure properties: http://ptforeclosures.laplata.co.us/index.aspx. Appeal Property Tax - Can I appeal my property taxes to the assessor?
Not really. You may appeal your property's actual value or classification to the Assessor.
Because your property's value is an important figure in the property tax equation, a different value or classification can have an effect on your property taxes. However, the level of taxation is determined by taxing authorities, not the Assessor. Questions about the level of taxation should be taken directly to the taxing authorities.

Development Activity - Land Use Permit needed for...?
In La Plata County, you generally have the right to one single family dwelling on one legally created parcel. Zoning - How is my property zoned?
La Plata County uses a permit, or performance zoning, system to determine suitability of land uses. The system generally allows one dwelling unit per lot without a land use permit and requires compatibility review for any additional development.
The closest thing to “traditional” zoning in the unincorporated areas of La Plata County is in the Animas Valley, from the North edge of Durango up to the Baker’s Bridge area. Land Use Permits are still required. Read more »

Yes, the Clerk and Recorders Office has a notary.
Please bring a valid state-issued photo ID and $2 for each notary.
